Positive affirmations are statements or short phrases used to challenge negative and self-absorbing thoughts. Affirmations have been around for thousands of years, in the form of mantras, and were first used in Vedic Sanskrit by Hindus in India 3,000 years ago. These spiritual mantras would be chanted repeatedly in meditation and healing practices and were thought to have strong psychological powers that could penetrate deep into the unconscious mind.
